The Cavachon is not a purebred dog, but don’t let that fool you because this breed of dog is every bit as unique and special as the top award winners. A cross between the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Bichon Frise, the Cavachon is known for expressive eyes and a sporty appearance. With a bright smile and intelligent manner, the Cavachon enjoys all types of activities, indoor or out. They are not currently recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC), but the Cavachon might be the cutest dog you ever own, possibly even cuter than some of our Yorkies for sale, but its a tough call.
The Basics
Referred to as designer dogs by many, the Cava chon is a smart, unique little companion. They are alert, sturdy and lively dogs that are family-friendly, perfect for homes with older children, other pets or even senior citizens. Weighing in at around 15-35 pounds as an adult, the Cavachon is the perfect size for traveling, sightseeing and any other activity where they are able to be by your side. Their coat is medium length, smooth in texture and requires daily grooming. However, it is possible to keep the coat shorter, eliminating the daily need for brushing. Life expectancy of a well-cared for Cavachon ranges from 8 to 12 years.
Temperament
Nothing is as welcoming as a Cavachon wishing to give you kisses and play. Known as extremely social little dogs, they rarely see a person they don’t want to meet-immediately. In fact, the Cavachon can be a bit pushy when it comes to getting the attention they need and it’s sometimes necessary to reinforce manners at an early age. Nevertheless, they are delightfully cool, calm and collected and make great companions. They might appear fragile at first, but look out, because most Cavachons are quite sporty and high spirited. They enjoy all kinds of physical activity, indoors or out, including chasing birds, butterflies, or rolled up socks.
Appearance
The face of a Cavachon makes even the roughest of us want to pick him up and squeeze. With expressive round eyes that can melt you faster than a summer day, the Cavachon is well aware of his cuteness and often uses it against you. Rarely seen without a smile, the Cavachon has the unique ability to brighten the dullest of days with its bright, cheery demeanor and fluffy little paws. One tilt of the head and you may be lost forever in the world of the Cavachon.
Color combinations are quite eye catching, ranging from black and tan, buff and white, peach, sable and white and even tri-colored mixes. They shed very little, meaning that a Cavachon may be an appropriate choice even for people suffering from allergies.
