Chocolate Havanese Puppies can be Hard to Find

Dec 29

The Havanese has a long and rich history, like most of the dogs in the Bichon family, . Also known as the Cuban Silk Dog, the Havanese descended from the Bichon Tenerife, which is now extinct, and was brought to the Canary Islands and Cuba by the Spaniards during early colonization periods. It gained a foothold on the islands, but didn’t develop a following in the United States until the 1970’s. In fact, immediately following the Cuban revolution, the US breeding pool for the Havanese was a mere 11 dogs.

That’s a low number to start out with, one that didn’t bode well for the future of the breed in the United States, but the Havanese proved to be resilient. It’s one of the fastest growing breeds in this country today, yet chocolate Havanese puppies can still be hard to find. Why? The original Havanese dogs in Cuba were believed to be all white. Pure bred members of the breed today can range in color and each have the distinguishing feature of a black nose and black pigment around the eyes, all save the chocolate Havanese, which has dark brown pigment on the nose.

The disparity in the coloring makes this particular version of the Havanese more popular, and harder to find, but have no fear, we have chocolate Havanese puppies for sale here. If you’ve been searching for some time, you can relax now. Take some time and browse through our selection. Use our webcam feature to set up an interview, view the pictures of chocolate Havanese pups to familiarize yourself with the breed, and email or call us if you have any questions. These dogs make wonderful companions and we want you to be as knowledgeable about them as possible before you adopt.

As a source for toy dog adoption, we here at Affordable Pup try to publish the history of each of our breeds so you can better understand how to care for them. The Havanese originated in the Western Mediterranean and evolved in Cuba and the Canary Islands, all tropical locations. Its coat is thin and designed to protect it from sun and heat, not to keep it warm in winter. If you own a Havanese and plan on taking it outside when the temperatures dip below freezing, dress it up in a sweater for best results.

If you don’t happen to find a Havanese that you feel is a match for you, check out some of our Yorkie puppies for sale. They are a more common breed and every bit as lovable as their cousins from Cuba. They tend to be a bit more energetic though, so be prepared to play with them, a lot. Yorkies are wonderful companions for children and senior adults. They’re easy to take care of and often live more than fifteen years.

What are teddy bear puppies?

Dec 26

If you’ve had any experience at all with toy dogs you have no doubt heard the expression “teddy bear puppies”. It’s a moniker that is often mistaken as a clever nickname for cute cuddly animals, but the term actually does apply to a specific breed of dog. Cross a Bichon Frise with a Shih Tzu and you get a puppy that looks exactly like a live teddy bear. Its actual name is “Shihchon”, so you can see why the term teddy bear is usually substituted. We have teddy bear puppies for sale here at Affordable Pup.

Dog breeds are crossed to create new breeds that have the strengths of both parents. The Bichon Frise, ironically, is a cross breed itself, between the water spaniel and standard poodle. Their exact origins are somewhat unclear, but their history goes back to at least the 13th and 14th Century, when Spanish and Italian sailors often brought them aboard ship with them. It was also a popular breed in France in the 18th and 19th Century and has even made an appearance in Australia in the 20th century.

The Bichon Frise was recognized as a breed by the AKC in 1973. The Shih Tzu, which originated in Asia, was recognized four years earlier in 1969. It was classified in England back in 1935, but the Shih Tzu’s origins go back much further than that. Its DNA analysis classifies it as an “ancient” breed, or one that is most closely related to wolves. Variations of the breed are depicted in Asian art going back several centuries and owners of Shih Tzu often claim they seem to have “old souls”.

Imagine the denizens of the royal courts of France mingling with the monks and warriors of ancient China and you can understand the unlikely set of circumstances that had to occur for a cross between these two breeds, the Bichon Frise and the Shih Tzu. Describing these dogs as teddy bear pups gives you a clear picture of what they look like, but it doesn’t begin to describe the significance that their parent breeds have had on the world for hundreds of years. As an owner of one of these wonderful dogs, it’s not a bad idea to learn more about them.

Here at Affordable Pup we have a large variety of puppies for sale and some clever features to help you get to know them better. View pictures, use the webcam option to set up an interview, email or call us to ask questions. In addition to teddy bear puppies we also have Yorkies and Maltese puppies for sale Ohio breeders have certified as pure bred. The Maltese is very close to the Bichon Frise in appearance and ancestry. Continue to read our posts here to learn more about that.

Did you know we have Yorkie Poo Puppies for Sale?

Dec 22

Cross breeding dogs gives the offspring a combination of strengths from both parents and often leads to the creation of an entirely new breed. The Yorkie Poo, though not recognized as an independent breed by the American Kennel Club, comes very close to falling in that category anyway. Crossing a Yorkshire terrier with a miniature or toy poodle produces a teacup puppy that is non-shedding and hypoallergenic. They are also, according to those who own them, the most lovable and loyal dogs on earth.

Here at Affordable Pup we do have Yorkie Poo puppies for sale. If you don’t see any listed on the website give us a call or send an email letting us know that you’re interested in one. We’ll do a search among our favorite breeders and families to see if there are any Yorkie Poo puppies available right now. At the very least we can find out if any are being raised and expected to be of adoptive age soon or if there are any breeding attempts presently in the works. You may need to wait, but we’ll get you a Yorkie Poo. We see them become available fairly frequently.

Are cross bred dogs healthier than their pure bred counterparts? The debate has raged on for decades. Some claim that pure bred dogs are healthier because they are not subject to the genetic abnormalities of two breeds. Others believe that too much inbreeding actually leads to genetic abnormality and that the cross bred dogs have a better chance to live longer healthier lives. We have both pure bred Yorkies and teacup Yorkie Poo puppies for sale on a regular basis and can’t really say which type of dog is stronger or healthier. Both are wonderful animals in our eyes.

What cannot be disputed is the happiness and joy that Yorkie poodle puppies bring to a home. They might be considered cross breeds to the AKC, but they are full-fledged members of the families who buy them from us. We get regular emails and phone calls from our customers expressing satisfaction and gratitude for the change in their lives a Yorkie Poo has made. The breed is fiercely loyal and love their owners unconditionally, a life-changing experience for those who haven’t been through it before and a reinforcement in belief systems for those who have.

If you’re looking for Yorkie Poo puppies for sale you have come to the right place. If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting with one before, take advantage of our web cam feature and make an appointment to visit with one. The Yorkie Poo is a lovable companion who will be with you well over a decade if you adopt him as a puppy. Some live past fifteen, sometimes even twenty years. That’s pretty healthy for any dog breed.

What makes Affordable Pup the best Choice for Maltese Puppies for Sale

Dec 15

Why should you do business with us and not one of those “super” pet stores you find all over the place? For convenience sake, wouldn’t it be easier to just drop in to one of their locations, see what they have to offer, and take a dog home with you? You might even pay less, but you’ll be getting what you pay for, and you’ll be contributing to the existence of puppy mills here in the United States and overseas. Many of the Maltese puppies for sale in pet stores were bred in horrific conditions that are not only immoral, but illegal in this country. Unfortunately, that doesn’t stop them from operating.

Here at Affordable Pup, all of the teacup Maltese puppies for sale we have listed on our website were bred by independent, loving humans who don’t make a living out of breeding hundreds of dogs a month. Their dogs are not caged twenty hours a day and actually have families that they spend time with. They’re healthy, vital, and energetic little dogs who enjoy love and affection and in most cases will live to their full life expectancy of fifteen to twenty years. That doesn’t happen in puppy mills.

The Maltese for sale you get from a puppy mill could have any number of physical ailments. The sole purpose of these facilities is to breed dogs. They cage them, feed them only their minimum basic requirement, and breed them until they’re worn out. Most puppy mills don’t pay much attention to whether or not the dogs they’re breeding come from the same litter, so inbreeding is a problem. Maltese are susceptible to knee problems as is. Inbreeding makes the chances of those problems occurring more likely. It also lowers the dogs’ immune systems to fight disease.

All of this is common knowledge and yet there are still pet stores that don’t have sufficient checks and balances in place to ensure that puppy mill dogs don’t end up in their cages. Much of this has to do with money. The Maltese puppies for sale Pennsylvania pet owners want sell for hundreds of dollars. A pure bred with papers can be priced at $800 or more. A Maltese without papers can still bring in $200 or more, not bad for a pet store that paid less than $50 for them. The numbers are sickening.

The holidays are upon us and children and loved ones will be asking if you can buy them one of the teacup Maltese puppies for sale they see in the pet stores. Keep in mind where these dogs actually come from. The price tag will tell you the story. You might save a few dollars if you buy there but you’ll definitely be contributing to cruelty to animals if you do. Puppy mills are already illegal, but consumer demand keeps them going. You are the consumer. Are you going to take a stand against puppy mills?
