Darling and Delightful Papillons

For post four of our deciding on a puppy series, we are presenting the beautiful and delicate Papillon. The name Papillon, pronounced “pap-ee-yon,” comes from the French word for butterfly, due to how their long-haired ears look framing their faces, which resemble butterfly wings.
Papillon puppies are in the Spaniel family, and they are sometimes called the Continental Toy Spaniel. There are actually two types of Papillons; ones with upright ears and ones with slightly dropped ears. Both types can be seen in the same litter so there is no breed distinction between the two types. Although the dropped-ear type is sometimes called a Phalène, which means “moth” in French.
