We try to make sure that we’re always open to field inquiries about pet adoption and care whenever possible and we hear an awful lot from those who adopt our puppies. Those who have cared for Yorkies in the past know that they are very affectionate and loyal dogs that will rarely leave your side. They are, however, extremely playful and can bolt when you’re out walking them. Training prevents some of that. A good leash works even better. Investing in both is recommended if you’re going to adopt a Yorkie or any other dog.

The most important factor in training your dog is making sure that he or she knows what the word “no” means. It’s very easy to get caught up in lavishing affection on that cute and cuddly fur ball, but keep in mind that teaching an animal to obey commands is beneficial to the animal as well as the owner. Once you start letting them get away with little things here and there it will be impossible to train them later on, or at the very least very difficult. Doesn’t the title of this post bring a smile to your face? It inspires visions of fluffy, furry, fun-filled mounds of soft and cuddly creatures rolling, rollicking, and enjoying life. Words like “shear joy” and “unconditional love”, concepts that are difficult for humans to buy into, are second nature for puppies. Have a Welcome Home Party for your Puppy

Bringing home a new puppy is very much like bringing home a new baby. The Pug Puppies for sale at our kennel are healthy but, delicate. Many people who purchase our puppies don’t generally wait 9 months but, in some respects there is the same amount of planning.

Take a look at our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page; our staff has thought of every question you might want to ask about buying and caring for your new puppy. Every now and then a question comes up about our Havanese Puppies for sale or our Yorkie Poo Puppies that we haven’t thought of and if you have one of those you can email us or call us. We will be happy to address your concerns.

Plan for your puppy the way you might plan for your new baby. In our FAQ’s we recommend getting a Children’s Pack n’ Play pen before your new puppy arrives. You see these play pens frequently at the beach. They are lightweight and can be relocated easily. Your puppy should spend its time sleeping and resting in this play pen for several days after he or she comes home.

Clean your house meticulously. A human baby will stay in your arms or in its crib much of its first weeks when it is home. A puppy is a little different. Make sure there are no small objects the puppy could pick up and chew on. If you have had a rodent problem in the past vacuum up all droppings and get rid of all traps. Puppy proofing your house shouldn’t be rocket science but, your puppy will be curious so be prepared.

Find a veterinarian you trust. We don’t recommend looking in the phone book. Talk to your friends and neighbors who have dogs. The more people you talk to you will find that there are one or two very trusted vets in your area. If you are still concerned go and visit a few and introduce yourself. Many times you can tell how your puppy will be treated by the way the staff treats you.

These first 2 weeks in your home are the most critical for your new puppy. Keep him or her in the warmest part of the house. If you have children talk to them before the puppy comes home. The temptation to hold and cuddle a puppy is strong, nature made it that way for a reason. A few supervised minutes 2 or 3 times a day is plenty. This is a new environment for your puppy they need time to get to know you and his or her new surroundings.

Finally, the two most important things for a puppy are food and rest. Our FAQ page is a sort of bible when it comes to feeding your puppy. Before your puppy arrives; make sure you have all the necessary food we recommend. Just like a human baby they need feeding every 2 to 3 hours. Set you alarm and get up to feed your puppy if he or she doesn’t get you up first. Rest, Rest and more Rest is our stern recommendation. Don’t let your puppy be bothered; as the saying goes let sleeping dogs lie. When they sleep they grow. Don’t do anything to inhibit that.

Teacup Breeds Make Excellent Therapy Dogs

There are many ‘sayings’ about people who go into one of the helping fields. Comments like ‘teachers are born and not made’ or ‘when other children were playing on the playground she was inside caring for her sick baby doll.’ Many people know from very early on what they were put on this earth to do. Some of our dogs, we believe, have that same intuition.

Therapy dogs come in all shapes and sizes. Some of the larger dogs are used to help patients in physical therapy by slowly walking with them or simply encouraging them with the wag of a tail. The larger dogs certainly serve their purpose but, it is the smaller dogs especially the teacup breeds that make all the difference for a hospitalized or Hospice patient.

Therapy dogs have to go through classes and certification but, many of our puppies are naturals at what they do and breeze through the training. Love at First Sight

If there is one comment we hear a lot here at Affordablepup.com, ‘It was love at first sight.’  Our staff experiences love at first sight with every puppy.  As much as we work with puppies you would think we would be immune to their charms.  Nope, every puppy we lay eyes on, we fall in love with.  We don’t even try to fight it anymore.

Some of the most loved puppies in our kennel are our teacup breeds.  They are born little and they stay that way.  Somehow they make us fall in love all over again every time we see them.

One of the most popular of the teacup breeds is the Teacup Yorkie.  Our other breeds are just as cute but these little guys have an allure all their own.  They stay small and they keep their puppy energy and enthusiasm most of their adult life.  Our kennel always has Teacup Yorkie puppies for sale in Ohio; if you are interested in adopting one we can always arrange a webcam appointment so you can take a better look at your puppy to be.
