Anyone who has had a loved one in Hospice or other type of terminal care facility knows the value of therapy dogs. Larger dogs can make good therapy dogs but, in many cases the dog takes up most of the bed and leaves little room for either the patient or the dog to relax. For patients who have allergies, the Havanese is a perfect friend. This well built little dog doesn’t shed and is what some term hypo-allergenic. Unlike the Pomeranian and Maltese the Havanese won’t leave clumps of hair all over someone’s hospital bed. If the patient is ambulatory this breed is perfect for a short walk outside. This dog is native to Cuba and its coat keeps the heat from penetrating down to the skin. Warmer climates suit this dog well.
